Debt-ridden electrician kills wife, kid, self
Ramesh Devramji Kumavat, an electrician, strangulated his 25-year-old wife Rekha and three-year-old daughter Bimla at his residence at Ramji Wadi, Rani Sati Marg, Malad (E). According to the police, Kumavat strangulated his wife and daughter and then hung himself from the ceiling fan. He had married Rekha just four years ago. He managed a shop where he repaired fans, mixers and other electrical appliances. However, he had to shut shop when his business nose-dived. Kumavat’s house would be besieged by debtors, neighbours told the Dindoshi police.
Immersion turns into funeral
The truck (MTT-7631) was returning to Ambernath after immersing a Ganpati idol at Ulhasnagar. The driver, however, lost control while negotiating a steep slope and the truck turned turtle after hurtling backwards.
Hanumant Agrar (22), a member of the band for the procession, was crushed under the truck and died on the spot. Those injured have been admitted to Dhanvantari Hospital at Badlapur. The truck driver fled the scene and the Ambarnath police are on his trail.
3 held for beating up conductor
Parshuram Pandit (32), Anant Joshi (32) and Nandkumar Bhoir (28), residents of Balkum, were ready to alight at the Ambe Gosavi Tank bus-stop when a conductor on a Thane Municipal Transport bus, Yogesh Pathak, blocked their pathand insisted that they alight from the front door at around 12.40 am. An argument ensued but the conductor was unrelenting. Tempers flared and the trio allegedly inflicted severe blows on him. By then, two traffic constables posted near the tank for immersion duty arrived at the scene. They rounded up the trio and escorted them to Thane Nagar police station. A complaint has been lodged by Pathak and the trio has been arrested under Sections 323 and 353 of the IPC for assault and obstructing a government servant while on duty.
