NEW DELHI, AUGUST 30: A dispute during a cricket match between two bastis led to the murder of a passer-by in Sadar Bazar in New Delhi on Friday evening. Amit, 22, who intervened to save his friends from the Jullahan basti, was killed by members of the rival basti, Saraikhalil.

The area police has arrested three persons, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Naseem and Mohammad Jaggi in connection with the alleged offence. The trio belong to the Saraikhalil basti and a murder case is likely to be registered against them. The police is still investigating the case and have been able to find the bat and wickets, the weapon of offence.

According to the police, a cricket match was being played between the people of the two bastis. The match was held in a park. An argument during the match led to a brawl. As a result, persons belonging to the Jullahan basti left the park. The three accused persons, however, caught hold of some of them and started beating them.

Amit, who was passingby, witnessed the beatings and intervened to protect his friends. Instead of paying heed, Rehman, Naseem and Jaggi reportedly meted out the same treatment to Amit.
