
AHMEDNAGAR, Nov 17: The Controllerate of Quality Assurance Vehicles (CQAV) recently celebrated its foundation day. Set up under the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), this organisation ensures the quality, reliability and self-reliance of defence vehicles and equipments. The CQAV is the authority holding the sealed particulars for all indigenous B’ vehicles like Tata, Ashok Leyland, Ambassador, Jeep, Maruti, motorcycles, trailers and armoured vehicles of West European origin and C’ vehicles such as earth moving equipment. Quality assurance, defect investigation, product improvement and post contract activities are taken care of.
The CQAV decides the acceptability of the tyres, tubes, flaps and bearings for all vehicles. R.R Ranalkar, controller of the CQAV told The Indian Express that their motto was to do it right the first time and every time and to ensure quickness and correctness.
The CQAV has an auto lab, electrical lab, chemical lab, rubber lab where the tensile strength, hardness, accelerated aging, compressibility of the test pieces of the rubber of the tyres, tubes and tyres are tested. At the metallurgical lab, various automobile components are tested for their material. It also has the indoor endurance tyre testing plant machine, a modern tyre testing plant. The testing goes on for about forty seven hours without pause. In the metrology lab accurate and minute dimensions of the automobile components are measured. The metrology section has sohpisticated equipment to carry out inspection in accordance with Indian Standard Specifications.
The CQAV houses a Central Vehicle Training School CVTS where training is imparted.
