While other political parties are busy with the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Left is sitting back and fine-tuning its strategy for a snap-poll in Andhra Pradesh.
That its stake in AP is high can be discerned from the fact that the CPI(M) has called a two-day central committee meeting in Kolkata on November 14 to dwell on its election strategy in the state.
The meeting has also been called perhaps to keep pace with the TDP’s Politburo meeting (slated for tomorrow) which is expected to put the stamp of approval on Chandrababu Naidu’s plan for an early poll, to cash in on the sympathy wave generated in the state following the attack on him. The major issue before the Left is also the need to thwart the rise of BJP in the state. But that hints at a possible Left-Congress alliance.
While the 10 per cent vote-share that the Left has with strongholds in Telangana region, will be transferred to the Congress in case of an alliance, for the Left there won’t be such a gain from a tie-up — apart from the possibility of joining the government if the TDP is routed.
