NAGPUR, August 8: The Maharashtra unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to launch a week-long agitation from August 19 across the state in protest against the rising inflation and unemployment.
The decision in this regard was taken in a four-day state-level convention of the party, held at Amravati from August 2 to 5 last. The convention was inaugurated by CPI secretary general, A B Bardhan, while central committee member Shamim Faizi and senior CPI leader and former legislator Madhavrao Gaikwad spoke on the occasion.
The four-day meeting adopted resolutions against the saffron government for its total failure on every fronts, particularly to prevent price rise, tackling the problems of landless labourers, youths, women and Dalits.Govindrao Pansare, state secretary of the party, tabled the political report while joint secretary, Manohar Deshkar, discussed about the organisational matters in the meeting.
The meeting unanimously re-elected Pansare and Deshkar, as secretary and joint secretaryof the state unit. Dr Bhalchandra Kango, will be the another joint secretary in the new body. It also elected 101 members in the state councils. Among the elected members in the state council include: Bal Alone, Madhukar Mankar, Prabhatai Sadhu, Walde, Arun Bankar and Jammu Anand (all from Nagpur).
