The Bombay High Court on Friday directed Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, former police commissioner and current DGP AN Roy and former assistant commissioner of police Shankar Kamble to file affidavits regarding the allegations in the illegal Sara-Sahara shopping complex case. The court in October had directed Roy to probe Bhujbal’s role in influencing the investigations into the shopping complex case, in which affiliates of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim were involved. According to public prosecutor Satish Borulkar, Roy has filed the report which has given a clean chit on the allegations. The court has directed the three parties to filed affidavits in this regard before the next hearing in January. Former journalist Ketan Tirodkar, booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), had moved an application through jail, demanding investigation over Bhujbal’s role. In the application, Tirodkar alleged that at the time of cross examination, then assistant commissioner of police Shankar Kamble, who was the investigating officer, was asked why no action was taken against Rajendra Vale, currently deputy municipal commissioner. He was at that time the ward officer, A-ward. It was stated that during the trial there was evidence to show Vale’s involvement in the Sara-Sahara case, yet no action was taken against him. It was further alleged that the directions to keep Vale at bay from the investigations came from the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, Chhagan Bhujbal.
