NEW DELHI, July 16: Summons have been issued to actor Sanjay Khan, the ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Prasar Bharati Board in connection with a plea regarding the telecast of the television serial, Panipat Ki Aakhiri Jung on Doordarshan.

Advocate Om Pal Tarar has alleged that Khan — the serial producer, the I&B Ministry and PBB have violated an earlier injunction against telecasting some episodes of the serial, previously called The Great Maratha.

“Sanjay Khan has projected the legendary Jat King, Suraj Mal, in bad taste and distorted history,” says Tarar. The lawyer maintains that Suraj Mal was a “great patriot” and is held in high esteem — especially among Jats — for his role in the struggle against British rule.

Tarar said that the court had in 1995 granted a permanent injunction against the telecasting of episodes 3-6 and 13 of The Great Maratha. By merely changing the title of the serial, Khan could not escape civil liabilities, said Tarar.

Khan, theministry, and PBB have been directed to file replies by tomorrow.
