The tiff between Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) and Air India over ground handling at the Cochin airport has taken a new turn, with the airline obtaining a court stay on CIAL’s attempt to take over a part of the lucrative role.

Hearing Air India’s arbitration plea, the Ernakulam district court took note of the airline’s contention that it had an existing contract for ground handling at the airport, valid till June 2010.

The state-owned carrier pleaded for preventing infringements on its exclusive handling rights. The court has issued notices to CIAL’s managing director and commercial manager.
