CHANDIGARH, Aug 5: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted bail to suspended superintending engineer Jagdish Mitter and executive engineer N.K. Gupta, both accused in the Engineering Department kickbacks case.Justice S.C. Malte, while taking up their bail pleas granted the same to them, since both had remained in custody for 65 and 86 days, respectively, after they were arrested by the police.Earlier, the counsel for the Administration while objecting to their bail pleas stated that keeping in view the gravity of the case and that since they were holding important positions, they may try to influence in the investigations.After setting aside these objections, the judge granted them bail by holding that since the accused were already suspended and had already remained under detention for long, there was no justification in keeping them under further detention.
