Even as Punjab police moved a local court for non-bailable warrants against Punsinger Daler Mehndi, his brother Shamsher and their wives, in connection with an alleged human trafficking case, the police today said that it had clinching evidence of Daler’s involvement in the racket.
A police official said the warrants were needed as the accused were evading arrest and had failed to join investigations. Daler and Shamsher’s wives had moved applications for anticipatory bail in another court which issued a notice to the state for October 18.
Also, a local court today extended the police remand of Shamsher till tomorrow. Shamsher was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate N.P. Singh in the evening who accepted the police plea for the extension of remand.
The Patiala police in Mumbai today raided the residence of Rakesh Kaushal alias Rocky, a key associate of Daler and seized video CDs, a computer and photo albums.
Raids were also carried out at the residence of Gurdial Singh Bhullar, alias Mamma, who was also a tout of the Mehndi brothers.
Police said that four youths — Bachhitar, Ramanpreet, Dalbir and Maninder — had in their complaints accused Daler of promising to send them to Germany. All four have alleged that Daler’s gunman Rajhmail introduced them to the singer, who referred them to his brother Shamsher. The latter demanded Rs 4.5 lakh each on the assurance that they would be sent to Germany. Dalbir told police that on payment of the sum in advance, they were sent with a troupe ‘‘Big B Entertainment’’, which landed in Thailand on August 23, 2002. There, they were told that the managers were working out a way to send them to Germany, but the troupe returned after a few days.
