MUMBAI, OCTOBER 10: The Mumbra police are searching for a maulvi from Kausa in Mumbra who is charged with sodomosing a nine-year-old who attended a madarsa in the mosque where the priest taught. According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother on October 9, Maulvi Hafeez-Mati-Ullah had asked the boy to accompany him to the first floor of the Majid-e-Umar mosque after the Koranic lessons were over on October 1. Here, the maulvi is alleged to have sodomised him.

According to the victim’s statement to the police, the boy was told not to mention the incident to anyone and sodomised the child twice after that. The boy then stopped attending the madrasa, Inspector P B Bapat told Newsline.

The statement says that the mother found her son bleeding and unconscious in the toilet at home on October 5. She said her son was not willing to identify his attacker despite much cajoling by the family doctor and herself. The nine-year-old finally broke his silence on Monday, the statement reads. Police, who have filed a complaint under Section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal code, have been searching for the priest since October 4.

In February 1999, another maulvi from Kausa was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for killing a 19-year-old woman, who was pregnant with his child. He murdered her and chopped her body into pieces that he scattered all over the townshhip when she insisted that he marry her.
