MUMBAI, MARCH 27: A policeman was mute witness to a robbery in Andheri today. At around 10.15 am, petrol pump owner Kishore Prabhakar Mastakar was on his way to a bank to deposit Rs 4.5 lakh in cash when his taxi was intercepted by a Maruti car on J P Road, opposite the Andheri Sports Complex.
Even though Mastakar (who was sitting in the back seat along with the cash) was accompanied by an armed police constable Patil (buckle number 21464) for his security, three unidentified men sprang out of the car and snatched the bag after brandishing choppers and a country-made revolver.
Constable Patil’s reflexes were so slow that even as one of the buccaneers pushed Mastakar and snatched the cash bag, Patil barely managed to get out of the taxi, rifle held loosely in his hands.
Before he could retaliate, Patil felt the cold, dull poke of a revolver in his ribs. Soon, his rifle was snatched and the robbers fled in the getaway Maruti in a matter of seconds. Mastakar received a light chopper cut on his neck in theprocess. The D N Nagar police is investigating.
Hours after this incident, six armed men barged into Amit Jewellers at Seven Bungalows at 2 pm and after threatening Balram Chowdhary and Suresh Chowdhary, decamped with gold ornaments worth 7.46 lakh and over Rs 70,000 in cash.
Though no one has been caught in this connection so far, the police has ruled out the involvement of big gangs.
