PUNE, MARCH 18: A constable shot himself to death with his service rifle at his residence at Shivajinagar here on Friday.
Police on Saturday said the bullet pierced through the chin of head constable Chandrakant Pawar (40) and came out of his skull, which indicated that he must have rested his chin on the rifle and pressed the trigger.
His wife and seven-year-old daughter had gone to the native place at the time of the incident and only his mother was present in the house.
The constable was rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where he was declared dead.Pawar, however, did not leave behind any suicide note and the cause for such an extreme step was yet to be ascertained. He was recruited as an armed policeman attached to the police headquarters in 1981.
