Allegations of the land mafia being patronised by the police grew loud again when four persons were held for an alleged attempt to grab a house on Tarn Taran road here. Those arrested include a serving constable of the CID department, while the name of the son of a senior PPS officer has also come up during investigation.
The accused have been identified as Harbans Singh Dhillon; Jaspal Singh, a resident of Sultanwind road; Constable Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi; and Jaspal Singh, a resident of Gobind Nagar. They had gone to take forcible possession of the house, owned by a relative of Dhillon, when the police, following by a tip-off, reached the spot to nab them. They were armed and flaunted their weapons in front of the police as well. “They have been booked under Sections 448, 456 and 457 of the IPC,” said ASP (City) P. K. Yadav. The four have been sent in police remand for three days by the judicial magistrate.
Sources said the son of a senior police officer is the managing director of the aviation firm owned by Dhillon.
ASP Yadav admitted to the name of a senior police official having cropped up. “But the probe is on and all aspects of the case are being looked into,” said Yadav.
Meanwhile, the constable, on deputation with the CID has been suspended.
AIG (Intelligence) Parveen Kumar Sinha said the matter has been reported to the higher authorities in Kapurthala and Chandigarh. “It is a serious issue and further departmental action would be initiated against him,” he added.
