PANCHKULA, April 19: A symposium on "How I can be an asset to the society" was organised by the Panchkula unit of Satya Sai Seva Society at the D C Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 7. About 10 senior administrative functionaries, industrialists and educationists participated in the symposium.
A retired senior bureaucrat, V P Dubey said that contentment was an essential pre-requisite for doing social service. He said people who are happy with the things they have, automatically think of the society and the nation.
Speaking at the function, SP Alok Mittal said that proper use of the powers by police officials was the biggest social service. He further said that if officials kept a vigilant eye on their subordinates, there would be lesser corruption. He also spoke on the recent steps taken by the Panchkula police for the speedy redressal of grievances. Former Vice Chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir University and retired Haryana bureaucrat, J D Sharma, spoke on the works undertaken by him after retirement for the rehabilitation of orphan children and needy persons. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Aruna Gupta, S Kapoor, M L Sudan, Deepak Dhiman and Balwinderjit Singh.
These people from different walks of life gave details about their respective contributions in the field of social service.
