NEW DELHI, Nov 26: The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision making body in the party, is slated to call a crucial meeting on Sunday to evaluate election results. Indications are that the Congress will wait for a while before going in for the kill, preferring instead to wait for BJP allies to make initial moves. At the moment, the mood in the Congress is one of triumph and the party feels more trouble is on the way for the BJP once the results are out.Parliament's winter session, beginning November 30, will form the first test case of Congress strategy. The party has had initial talks with the Left and other allies to drum up protests during the session saying the Union Government must go as it had failed on ``all fronts''.Then comes the December 6 anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, the first while the BJP is in power in both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Help for the Congress on this front is to come from the Trinamool Congress, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha and the Left parties. This is followed by the December 11 all-India bandh announced by Left trade unions and supported by the Congress's Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). The bandh call has been given by the unions affiliated to the CPM, CPI, RSP, CPI(ML), and Forward Bloc.Significantly, the labour unions had kept a relatively low profile during United Front regimes under Deve Gowda and I K Gujral. It is for the first time that the BJP-led Government will be tackling labour unrest. The Government is likely to be put in a quandary by Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee, given her pro-labour leanings.Developments on both December 6 and 11 are expected to set the tone for the brief three-week Parliament session which the Congress plans to utilise to embarrass the BJP further.
