MUMBAI, MARCH 13: The Congress has organised a victory rally at Nagpur, where the headquarter of the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh is located, on April 14 to celebrate BJP’s retreat on the controversial RSS circular permitting Gujarat government employees to participate in RSS activities.
“We have decided to organise two big rallies. One in Mumbai to protest against the decision of the Centre to review the Constitution and the second at Nagpur to celebrate BJP’s retreat on the controversial circular. Both the meetings will be addressed by AICC President Sonia Gandhi,” MPCC President Govindrao Adik said.
Adik claimed that the circular promulgated by the Gujarat Government on January 2 permitting its employees as well as officers to participate in the RSS activities was unconditionally withdrawn on March 8 following strong protest lodged by the Congress as well as a nation-wide agitation.
On the revival of the Congress, Adik said after he took over the reigns of the party on March 5 from Prataprao Bhosale, he has chalked out a multi-pronged strategy to rejuvenate the organisation at the grassroot level.
“Besides organising training camps at the district as well as regional levels for office-bearers, I myself have chalkedout a comprehensive action plan for direct interaction with party workers at the grassroot level,” Adik said, adding, the on-going membership drive will be intensified to further strengthen the organisation in all regions and districts and at all levels.
On the campaign launched by the Nationalist Congress Party against a section of the Congress leaders, Adik hoped that a better sense will prevail among the NCP leaders. “I can understand criticism of the policies and programmes undertaken by the Congress-led Democratic Front government. I hope the NCP leaders will immediately stop criticism of the Congress functionaries. In the event, they criticise either Sonia or any other Congress leader, we will give them a fitting reply. Then there will be absolutely no compromise,” Adik warned.
Adik appealed to the NCP leaders that in the larger interest of the new government, they should refrain from commenting such issues, which will have an adverse impact on the Front. “We should understand that our fight is against the Sena-BJP alliance and under such circumstances, we should avoid intra-front disputes,” Adik added.
Adik claimed that there was no threat to the five-month-old government headed by Vilasrao Deshmukh, since there was no possibility of split in any of the constituents of the front. “I do not think that the Opposition parties will succeed in splitting any of the constituents of the front. Now the Deshmukh government is firm in the saddle,” he added.
The newly appointed MPCC president said, since an agreement on the 51-point common minimum programme has been reached, now there will be better coordination between the constituents partners. “After a marathon debate, we have drafted the ambitious common minimum programme. Each and every constituent has been taken into confidence while preparing the plan. Once the process of programme implementation begins, the new government will be able to deliver the goods,” he said.
Along with coordination among the constituent partners, Adik will also emphasise on coordination within the Congress for a result-oriented government. “We plan to have regular meetings with the Congress Cabinet members so that we can tackle the problems faced by the party workers for instant justice,” he added.
