Uttaranchal Congress chief Harish Rawat has promulgated a new code of conduct which aims to promote austerity and morality amongst partymen. Under the code, ministers, MLAs and senior party office-bearers will now have to do away with gifts, headgears, shawls and garlands at felicitation functions. After the party came to power in the February polls, ministers and party leaders have been regularly attending such functions.
According to the code, formulated by the Uttaranchal Pradesh Congress Committee, state and party functionaries have to keep away from pomp attached to such occasions, and if possible avoid such functions. Rawat has also asked party leaders to submit details of property and assets to the party.
Defending his decision, Rawat said there was nothing unusual in the move as the party’s Guwahati conclave had decided on a code of conduct for partymen.
