BJP chief L.K.Advani today used the occasion of the 30th anniversary of declaration of Emergency to lash out at the ‘‘dynastic’’ Congress and ‘‘undemocratic’’ Communists for their lack of respect for the role of the opposition in a democracy.Addressing a ‘Samman Samaroh’ organised by the Delhi unit of the BJP to honour party workers who had suffered during the Emergency, Advani said the ‘‘repression’’ unleashed by Indira Gandhi’s Emergency regime was much worse than anything under the British Raj.He said the Congress and the Communists had the ‘‘Emergency mindset’’ displayed in their disdain towards the Opposition — ‘‘Those who do not like democracy do not like the Opposition either,’’ he said.Just as in monarchies, no opposition was tolerated, the ‘‘dynastic’’ principle had invaded the Congress and that’s why the party had no respect for the Opposition, Advani said.As for the Communists, Advani peppered his rambling speech with anecdotes of how Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev as well as leaders of the erstwhile Czechoslovakia could not even understand the need for having opposition parties since they were used to one-party Communist states.‘‘And today the Congress and Communists have come together,’’ he said, exhorting party workers to guard against the revival of the ‘‘Emergency mindset’’ that the UPA regime represented.Advani praised the ‘‘tremendous’’ contribution of ‘‘Jana Sangh and RSS workers’’ in resisting the Emergency. They had struggled much more than workers of other parties, he said.George Fernandes, who also addressed the meeting, said Emergency had been imposed for one reason alone — to fulfill Indira Gandhi’s dynastic ambitions.Asserting that ‘‘khandani rajniti tanashahi ko prerna deti hain (dynastic politics inspires dictatorship)’’, Fernandes said the current Congress goverment displayed the same tendencies as the Emergency regime.George on BJP feud: Who will I speak to? New Delhi: Perturbed over the developments within the BJP, nda convenor George Fernandes on Saturdaty said he was worried about the future of the NDA. “..Now we are seeing that issues are developing within the largest party of the nda. This makes me worry about the future of the nda,” he told NDTV. Asked if he had spoken to anyone in the BJP about this, Fernandes said, “Whom should I speak to? Everybody is attacking Advani and I do not wish to disturb Atalji (Vajpayee).” —PTI
