
MUMBAI, JAN 7: The last year’s runners-up St. Columba defeated debutant Vasant Vihar by 41 runs to enter the last four stage of the MSSA-Colgate Inter-School girls under-16 cricket tournament (25 overs) at the MSSA-Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan, today.
St Columba did well to score 90 for 5 in the stipulated overs. Chaitra Jadhav was the top scorer with an unbeaten 19 while Mr Extras were 59. Seamers Preeti Girinath and Shruti Chheda took two wickets each.
Vasant Vihar were shot out for 49. Medium-pacers Namrata Ghag (4 for 15) and Anuja Devlekar (3 for 6) did the damage.
Brief scores: St Columba 90 for 5 in 25 overs (Chaitra 19 n.o.; Preeti Girinath 2-26, Shruti Chheda 2-31) bt Vasant Vihar 49 in 22 overs (Namrata Ghag 4-15, Anuja Devlekar 3-6).
Dani sets mark
Sunil Danti of Nagindas Khandawala Sports Club, Malad, set a new meet record in the boys under-20 long jump on the second day of the second Ryan International Sport Club State athletic meet being conducted at theUniversity Stadium, Marine Lines, on Friday.
Others to create new records were Maxson Furtado in the boys under-20 shot put, Sanoj Jiaswar in the boys under-18 shot put, Amol Kadam in boys under-18 long jump and a few others.

Mumbai, Vidarbha in final
Mumbai A and Vidarbha, the best teams on view, expectedly entered the final of the second `Saamana Trophy’ (U-14) State-level cricket tournament today.
Mumbai `A’, who had to be satisfied with the second spot in the first edition, got past their second string by seven wickets. They reached the target of 199 set by their juniors in the 42nd over with Kingal Patel being the major contributor with an unbeaten 76 off 98 balls.
There was yet another major contribution in the penultimate round from Aditya Jaynarayan of Vidarbha scoring an unbeaten 99 in his team’s total of 222 for 3 in 38.2 overs in reply to Thane’s moderate 221 for 8 in their stipulated quota.
Brief scores (semis): Mumbai B 199-6 (Ankit Chavan 31 n.o., Atish Golatkar 31 n.o.) lost to Mumbai A 200-3 in 41.3 overs (Prathamesh Kanaoje 59, Kinjal Patel 76 n.o.).

Mastan, NNH in final
Mastan YMCA and NNH set up an all-Nagpada final in the youth boys section of the 3rd Fr Agnel Open basketball tournament at Fr Agnel Complex, Vashi, today. While Mastan YMCA beat School of Basketball 64-36, NNH accounted for the hosts 75-66.
