
MUMBAI, MAY 3: Colaba camp rallied from a two goal deficit to down Worli Camp, 6-5 via the tie-breaker, in the boys under-16 final of the 13th Bipin Memorial Football Tournament which concluded at the Cooperage on Sunday.
The highlights of this final were the twin long range goals off free-kicks by Muzaffar Ansari of Worli before half-time and the equaliser by Hasan Rizvi late in the second half to force the tie-breaker.
Muzaffar stunned early in the game with a 40-yard righ-footer in the 13th minute that saw the ball sail over rival ‘keeper Manish Kanojia.
The second one, three minutes later was a powerful grounder from the same distance and had Kanojia groping for the ball again.
The Colaba boys came back with Neville David nailing a rebound from a Hasan Rizvi kick that saw the ball crashing into the woodwork.
The next goal, in the 34th minute of play, saw Hasan receive a pass to the extreme right. And he did no mistake finishing with a powerful angular shot to the far end of the rival post.
In the tie-breaker Neville David, Jilani Mohd, Rashid Shaikh and Satish Keer struck for the winning side while Hamza Ansari, Tariq Ansari and Amar Ansari brought down the margin.
Andheri scored a thumping 4-0 win over Borivli to clinch the girls u-16 title. Gracy Pereira was the star for Andheri striking thrice, twice in the first half with Vaidehi Bane completing the rout.
The camp was co-sponsored by Indian Oil, Worli Sports Club and Citizens Organisation for Public Opinion.
Prizes were also given to the best player from each camp selected by a panel comprising Olympian SS Narayan and internationals Deryck D’Souza and Ratnakar Shetty.
