CMC set to hold world meet on colorectal surgery

The Department of Surgery at the Christian Medical College and Hospital is organising an international conference and workshop on October 7 and 8.

The Department of Surgery at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) is organising an international conference and workshop on October 7 and 8. The theme of the conference is upper GI, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. This conference will address modern surgical management of all related diseases. While the overall approach will be broad-based, the talks will emphasise on recent developments in the field and current areas of controversy.

Many renowned international surgeons are participating in this conference. Prof Sudhakar Rao, Chief of Surgery and Hepatobiliary surgeon from Royal Perth Hospital, Australia will speak on the management of various pancreatic and liver malignancies. Dr Anderson, senior radiologist from the same hospital will talk on role of CT Scan and MRI in diagnosing cancer of the liver, gall bladder, stomach and pancreas. Dr Keith Hine, a senior gastroenterologist from UK and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians will talk on the controversies of the management of esophageal diseases.

The national faculty will include senior surgeons from various medical colleges of India including Prof Wig, former head, Department of Surgery at PGI and currently professor of surgery at GMC, Chandigarh, Dr Sanjay Govil, a leading liver surgeon from Chennai, Dr M.C. Misra, chief laparoscopic surgeon from AIIMS, Prof Attri, head of surgery at GMC, Chandigarh, Dr Neethirajan and Dr Surinder Singh, heads of surgery at Government Medical Colleges at Amritsar and Patiala, respectively.

“It is indeed a privilege to host this conference with such renowned faculty from overseas and India. Liver surgery has been started at CMC Hospital and all patients with liver tumors including secondaries are now getting the benefit of this service at our hospital. Our aim is to advance the facilities of liver transplantation along with organ donation campaign in the near future,” said Dr AG Thomas, Director of CMCH.
