Perturbed over the leak of a World Bank letter and an official note showing her approval of 50 per cent reservation in sports institutions two days ago and the can of worms they have opened, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has made up her mind to deal with her administration with an iron hand.

‘‘I have asked the Chief Secretary to inquire into the leak of government documents to the media. Stern action will be taken against the officials found involved,’’ Mayawati told a hurriedly called press conference today. And her message is clear.

Principal Secretary, Sports, Harishchandra and a secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office have already been suspended.

‘‘Copies of the letter from the World Bank threatening to stop flow of funds were only in the possession of the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Agricultural Production Commissioner and two senior officials,’’ she said, adding she had full trust in Chief Secretary D.S. Bagga.
