NEW DELHI, January 14: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit escaped narrowly after a speeding truck hit her pilot car near Hanuman Mandir just before the ISBT flyover on Ring Road yesterday afternoon. Police say the truck driver had consumed liquor. No one was injured in the incident.
Dikshit’s convoy was coming from the East Delhi side and was on its way to her office at Sham Nath Marg around 1 p.m ., when the incident took place.
Sources say a truck which was coming from the opposite side suddenly veered towards Dikshit’s convoy. And it hit the pilot car, about 50 feet ahead of the CM’s vehicle. Fortunately, the driver of the pilot car did not lose control. The truck driver also managed stop his vehicle in time, preventing further damage. None of the occupants in the pilot car sustained injuries. The truck driver has been booked.
A traffic police inspector who was present at the spot told Express Newsline that the truck driver reeked of liquor. His blood sample has been sent for a medical test.
DCP (traffic) M.S. Upadhye today confirmed the incident. The Chief Minister, however, was not could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
