AMBALA, May 13: Ambala has been declared by the World Health Organisation as the dirtiest town in Asia and the Allenby Lines which falls on the other side of the railway lines is the dirtiest when it comes to the cantonment area.
So on Tuesday morning the officers, junior commissioned officers and jawans picked up tools for sanitising the area. The beautification drive, inaugurated by the Corps Commander, was launched all over the cantonment under the supervision of various regiments.
But it was the Allenby Lines, known as the Kali Paltan in the local circle, that wore a festive look with posters, banners and refreshment stalls. Wives and children joined the OGs to provide a clean look to their shabby habitat. The effort which brought everyone together irrespective of the rank and position under the scorching heat could succeed in providing a facelift to the area.
The drive will be on for another two days and periodic review will be conducted by the Brigade Commander later on.
