PATIALA, July 2: A large number of Class-IV employees sat on a protest dharna outside the office of the district food and civil supplies officer here today.

The call for the dharna was given by the Class-IV Government Employees Union, Punjab. The Union is fighting for fulfillment of the long-pending demands of Class-IV employees. The dharna was addressed by Union leaders Darshan Singh Labana, Prem Kumar Arora, Roop Lal, Bagha, Mohan Singh Negi, Darshan Singh Nabha, Baljinder Singh and Balbir Singh.

The leaders appealed to the state government to accept the employees8217; demands at the earliest. They said the Union will organise a state-level demonstration at Chandigarh on August 10, after completion of the present phase of the agitational programme.

Their demands include regularisation of services of chowkidars working in the Department since the past 10-15 years, provision of compensatory employment to family members of Class-IV employees and chowkidars, departmental promotion for employees, benefits for the ex-servicemen etc.

A deputation of the employees later submitted an eleven-point memorandum to the District Food and Supplies Controller, to be sent to the Director, Food and Civil Supplies, Punjab.
