MUMBAI, FEB 8: As part of the bi-centennial celebrations of racing in Western India, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) will be organising a mega racing festival `The Clash of the Titans’ on Sunday, Feb 14 in aid of Disabled Jockeys Fund.

Iqbal Nathani, the principal convener of the scheme, informed the media that he had planned for the event since August and was very happy that spontaneous support from all quarters, particularly international reputed riders and several sponsors namely RWITC, Nanoli Stud, Magnasound, Sony and Alpic. Each will be sponsoring a race worth Rs One million. It is for the first time that an event of this sort is being held in the country.

In addition to these the event is being co-sponsored by The Indian Express, UB Group, Beautiful Boulevard, London Pilsner, Global Telesystems and D Karmali.

There will be a contest for all spectators and the one who will nominate the winners of all the five millions will be given a Maruti Zen car by the organisers.

Well knownex-jockeys, who have a 1000 wins to their names M Jagdish, S Chavan, PR Khade, Khem Singh and Vasant Shinde and noted trainers RR Byramji, SM Shah, Maj VM Lad and DN Adenwalla will be felicitated at a contributory dinner on eve of the races.

An unique auction of coverings shall be a major attraction with reputed stallions like Cristofori, Tirol, Serious Spender, Tijuana, Treasure Leaf, Indictment, Sir Bordeaux, Local Talent, Innercity and Meritocrat.

Each million will have 16 contenders and the riders will be decided by draws. There will be two teams of foreign and Indian riders. The foreign team will include captain Mike Kinane, Jimmy Fortune, Richard Hughes, Kevin Darley, John A Reid, Kevin Manning, Kieren Fallon, Naill McCullagh and F Lynch (reserve).

The Indian team includes, Pesi Shroff (captain), Warren Singh, C Rajendra, M Narredu, RV Gowli, S Narredu, KPG Appu, YS Srinath and Aslam Kader (reserve).There will be seperate point system for team and individual winners. A lot of enthusiasm hasalready been generated and a response similar to Indian derby Invitational and Poonawala Breeders Million is expected.

Also to speak on the occassion were DA Nanda (committee memeber RWITC), Farooq Ratonsey (breeder and owner), Col Bahadur (Asst Secy RWITC).
