VADODARA, May 21: Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria on Thursday morning ordered not to provide potable water through water tankers for marriages and other functions.
However in the afternoon, he withdrew the order following objection from the Opposition councillors.
According to highly placed sources, he called up the fire brigade in Dandia Bazaar and told that he was cancelling the orders.
A delegation of Opposition councillors, including Chandrakant Shrivastava, Chirag Zhaveri, Satyajit Gaekwad and others, called on the civic chief and objected to the decision.
“How will the persons concerned get water if it is not supplied by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation,” they questioned. The councillors also said it would not be possible for all the citizens to afford mineral water.
The VMC charges Rs 125 per tank for providing potable water facility.Interestingly, in the Standing Committee, the civic chief had sent a proposal in the supplementary agenda to provide water free of cost to an organisation’s cultural programme to be held in the Akota stadium on Sunday.
