That8217;s entertainment
This weekend seems quite a happening one. Totem Pole must have had enough of those Freaky Fridays. So this Friday, there won8217;t be anything freaky, instead, everything will be recycled. From what? Good question! Genesis, the event people, has organised this night where everything from the paper on which one can doodle to the decor is made from, you guessed it, recycled cans, bottles and so on. Even the music will be recycled!

As if that were not enough, there is another happening8217; the same night. At 10 Downing Street, girls can have a whale of a time. For not only do they get free entry that night, but even the guy accompanying them is in, for free. Besides, Jaws Events has organised an interesting DJ-cum-bartender, Namrata Baruwa. The lady will not only take over the DJ8217;s cabin but will also mix cocktails for you. Pune, it seems, has finally arrived when it comes to entertainment.

Taking the lead
Each of us wants to live in a pollution-free area with all basic amenities. But there are very few who actually work to make this happen. The Kalyani Nagar Residents8217; Association KNRA is an exception. It has strived to keep the area clean, and has done it by making the residents a part of the crusade. With the aim of highlighting the problems faced by the residents and how the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC can help, the association invited Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor on December 2 to survey the area.

In an open-house session, problems faced by the residents 8211; including traffic chaos arising at the Kalyani Nagar turning due to the absence of a traffic signal, bad conditions of the internal roads, lack of storm-water drainage lines and PMC water supply were put up. Various projects undertaken by the KNRA, like the vermiculture pit and proposed naming of each of the lanes in the area, were met with approval by Kapoor, who hoped that other areas, too, adopt the same approach. He also promised to hold a meeting of all senior officers and representatives of the KNRA either on December 14 or 15 to sort out the problems. Positive signs of improvement?

Art Generated
Students of the Arena Mutimedia Centre at Fergusson College road have put up an eight-day art exhibition covering a kaleidoscope of topics that took off on December 3. The exhibition is an effort to help the students indulge in their creative talents. The artwork, all done on computers, focusses on subjects such as corruption, dowry, drug abuse, environmental protection and even has a short feature that pays tribute to the life of Princess Diana, covering her childhood, marriage and her social work. The artworks also dabble in fashion, jewellery and interior designing.

Freedom in space
Painting is an art that sometimes requires minimal brush strokes. As Diwakar Dengle is out to prove. He is holding an exhibition of paintings on Kulu Manali, Dalhousie and Vaishnodevi till December 8, at Gurukrupa Kala Dalan, Kothrud.

These are paintings that depict snow-clad mountains 8211; the catch is that the painter has kept the paper almost free of paint. Says he, 8220;Most people make the mistake of colouring the paper white to depict snow 8211; that only spoils it. To show snow, one must leave the paper untouched except for touches of light violet, blue and grey, the colours that these mountains reflect8221;.

But this is not to say that Dengle8217;s paintings comprise blank8217; canvases. While the majority depict snow, there are also those that show nature and places in all their glory. This 75th exhibition is his way of introducing Puneites to the world of art.
