CHANDIGARH, Jan 6: A march was taken out today by Chetna manch in protest against the attack on film "Fire". Braving the rain and hostile weather, a gathering of writers, theatre artists and artists marched through Sectors 14, 15, 16 with banners in their hands.

A rally also was held at Sector 17 plaza, where the protest march terminated. The protestors were condemning what they termed as their "right to freedom”. The rally was addressed by Gursharan Singh, Dr M. S. Randhawa president and secretary of Chetna Manch, Dr Rani Balbir Kaur and Dr Prem Singh among others. Speakers condemned the attacks on the film, on the minority community and the threat to freedom of press in Gujarat. The director of film "Fire", Deepa Mehta, who was scheduled to join the rally could not make it.
