SOLAPUR, July 29: The Solapur Municipal Corporation SMC has made up its mind to hand over its underdeveloped land to the City and Industrial Development Corporation to develop it on the lines of New Mumbai-Washi.
An SMC delegation comprising Mayor Janardhan Karampuri, former Mayor Khagadawoed Nalband, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Iqbal Railiwala, Tuljaram Mangolekar and V. Bendre, met CIDCO chairman Narayan Marathe and CIDCO manager B.D. Shinde at Mumbai on Tuesday to discuss the proposal.
He said CIDCO spends its own money to develop the area and sell developed land to private parties. A team of CIDCO officials had visited the SMC in 1995 to initiate steps in that direction but nothing was done after that. 8220;We are now determined to get the project going as soon as possible8221; he said. Areas of Bale to Dahitne, Hiraj to Pratp Nagar and Basweshwar Nagar have been included in the project.
Karampuri was impressed by the CIDCO project at Washi. 8220;It is a dream town of 1500 flats. The railway station, business establishments, Belapur station and the railway bridge have left me admiring CIDCO. I want my city like that,8221; Karampuri said.
Elaborating on the city, he said: 8220;The city is located amid pilgrim centres like Gangapur, Pandharpur, Akkalkot, Tuljapur, Gulbarga and Bijapur. It iswell-connected by national highway and railway. It has a population of around 30 lakh. So its development like Washi was imperative.8221;
He said the civic body was all set to pass a resolution to hand over the SMC land to CIDCO soon. The resolution will be sent to the State Government for approval.
