
CHANDIGARH, Feb 7: The Criminal Investigation Agency of the UT police, today, raided a local cable network and arrested an operator. They seized tapes and other material for allegedly showing a movie without obtaining its copyright.
According to police sources, the anti-piracy cell of the CIA acted on a complaint lodged by Arun Sondhi, a representative of Impact, a Delhi-based organisation which quot;looks after the interests of copyright holdersquot;. The police around 11.30 a.m. raided the premises of Channel Four in Sector 22, being run by Chandigarh Cable Operators Network C-CON while they were screening a new Hindi movie Aur Pyar Ho Gaya, allegedly without obtaining its copyright.
The raiding police party arrested Naveen Singh, who was operating the cable system. They have registered a case under Sections 52-A, 63 and 68 of the Copyright Act in the Sector 17 police station.
The police have also seized a video cassette recorder, a television set, the cable transmission system and two cassettes of Hindi movies Aur Pyar ho gaya and Mehndi.
CIA incharge Inspector K.I.P. Singh, when contacted, said that the arrested person was being interrogated to find out about others involved in the case. He said more arrests and seizures might follow.
