BANGALORE, MARCH 21: The `Chintamani bandh’ call given by the Nagareeka Hitha Rakshane Vedike (NHRV) in protest against the government’s stand on the murder of Krishna Reddy, consequent of which eight dalits were torched at Kambalapalli in Kolar district recently, passed off peacefully today.

Police sources here said the NHRV gave a bandh call alleging that the ministers, political parties and officials had left the family of Krishna Reddy in the lurch, while announcing assistance and help to the dalits affected in the Kambalapalli carnage.

According to a Vedike spokesman at Chintamani, the family members of Reddy were not allowed to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her recent visit to Chintamani.
