CHANDIGARH, Nov 2: Many allottees of dwelling units of Chandigarh Housing Board in the west of Sector 38 are an aggrieved lot. For, the flats allotted to them have already developed cracks even before allotment is made to them.

According to sources, some of the allottees have detected such cracks even before the possession was to be taken over by them. Incidentally, the flats were allotted only last week by the Chandigarh Housing Board in the draw of lots held in its office.

Sources say that immediately after the allotment last week some allottees went to see their houses, when they saw the cracks. Seeing the cracks in the walls of their houses, some who have also not taken over the possession of their flats now want the houses to be in order before they take over the possession from the board.

The MIG and HIG flats were constructed about a year back, but were not allotted following some procedural delays. The Chandigarh Housing Board had conducted the draw of lots for the dwelling units constructed in the West of Sector 38. Board officials, when contacted, termed the cracks as construction joints and said that the same had been repaired with chemical treatment. They added that there was no cause for worry.
