Michael Vaughan could have played his last game as captain of England8217;s limited-overs team with new coach Peter Moores hinting at changes today. Moores replaces Duncan Fletcher on May 1, and the West Indies start a four-Test tour 16 days later.
England8217;s World Cup squad arrived back today in London after failing to reach the semi-final. Moores said he would talk to Vaughan about the team8217;s last six months, but he left open the possibility that England may have different captains in each form of the game.
Fletcher quit after eight years as England coach on April 19, and Moores, who has only played county cricket representing Sussex was appointed a day later. 8220;I view it very much as a challenge and in many ways, I8217;m very excited about it,8221; Moores said. 8220;England8217;s just back, so I have the chance to speak to some of those and see what lessons have been learned over the winter.8221;
After the drunken antics of Andrew Flintoff in the Caribbean 8212; the all-rounder went on a late night drinking binge and reportedly had to be rescued from the ocean at 4am after falling off a small pedal boat 8212; Moores wants players to police their own discipline. 8220;Discipline is important in any cricket team, because you need to be efficient to get the work done to make sure you can go forward,8221; he said.
8220;Discipline is best when it comes from the players themselves and from the environment it8217;s created. Hopefully, that8217;s the sort of environment we8217;ll have in the team.8221;
