Navodaya school test cards
The admit cards for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test-1998 to be held on February 8 are available in the office of the District Education Officer, Sector 9. In a press release, principal Lachhman Singh has requested all the schools concerned to collect the admit cards on working days.
Boy wants Cielo toy car price slashed
A four-year-old boy today asked the management of Daewoo Motors to slash the price of the toy model of Cielo car from Rs 75 to Rs 40. In a letter to the management, Abheek Kakkar, a nursery student of Vivek High School, said that while prices of the Cielo cars have been reduced by over Rs 1.2 lakh, the toy car continues to be sold at Rs 75.
Congmen resent parking fee at Sukhna
Local Congressmen have resented the decision of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh to impose parking fee at the Sukhna Lake. In a press release, Chandigarh District Congress (Urban) president O.P. Verma and the joint secretary of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, Sandeep Singh, said the imposition of such a fee would affect a large number of people, who go to the Lake for morning and evening walks.
Confirm employees, Admn urged
The Class IV Employees’ Union of the UT Education department, while hailing the Administration’s decision of confirming 150 employees, demanded that the remaining employees who had completed 240 days of service should also be confirmed.
Painting contest organised
The Traffic Warden Cell of the city police today organised a painting competition on Road Safety, for school children, at the Traffic Park in Sector 23, here. Police sources said that nearly 1,000 students from various government and private schools participated in the competition.
"Hand over Sec 21 community centre"
The Block Congress Committee no. 4 today organised a dharna and blocked traffic outside the Nehru Yuvak Kendra to condemn the attitude of the Chandigarh Administration in not handing over the communitycentre in Sector 21 to the residents of the area. A memorandum in this regard was presented to the UT Adviser, through SDM Sanjiv Khirwar, for early restoration of the community centre to the residents, "for whom it was built".
Three booked for assault
The city police have registered a criminal case against Pawan Garg, Balbir Garg and Om Garg, residents of Sector 46 here, on the complaint of T.K. Bansal, a resident of Sector 15. Sources said that Bansal was reportedly assaulted by the three, his partners in a local petrol pump. A case for trespass, criminal assault and rioting under Sections 147, 148, 149, 452 and 506 of the IPC was registered on Tuesday after the court directed the police to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
