PM distressed at undignified attacks
In a statement which is seen as a rebuke to his ministerial colleagues George Fernandes and Pramod Mahajan, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today expressed deep distress at the transgression of standards of decent and dignified electioneering. He specifically disapproved remarks made against Congress president Sonia Gandhi which can be construed to be “undignified”.
Arun Singh asked to stay
Arun Singh, the high-profile special executive assistant to External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, has been asked to stay on in his job through the duration of the election. Until late last week, Singh had been planning to return to his hermitage in the mountains of Binsar, from where he had descended in the end of June to assist the BJP government in harnessing the Kargil operation.
