DHARAMSALA, May 17: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said the Central Government has agreed in principle to take up execution of two major hydel projects, 2,051 MW Parbati and 800 MW Kol Dam, at the earliest in which Himachal would get 12 per cent free power and 38 per cent on cost price.

Addressing a gathering at village Nari near Una on the occasion of a reception organised by Pandit Amar Nath Sharma a philanthropist, the Chief Minister said the Union Energy Minister has also agreed to start work on Chamera Phase II hydro project shortly.

Dhumal said the state government has decided to give utmost priority to hydro power generation in the state with a view to make it a major source of income, help in employment generation and overall development of the state.

He said the work on 126 MW Larji hydel project had been expedited and the government would soon take up the 10.5 MW Nugal hydel project near Palampur.The Chief Minister said the government had submitted a project to the Planning Commission to take up channelisation of Swan river in Una district, which wreaks havoc in the area in the rainy season. 8220;The people have already suffered a lot on this front,8221; he said, adding that since the BJP party was now at the helm of affairs, special attention would be paid to the development of Una.

Dhumal said the Union Railway Minister has agreed to start Una-Talwara railway line from next month besides taking up the proposed work on Kalka-Parwanoo broad gauge railway line. He held that the previous state government had 8220;failed totally to pursue the issues of the state with the central government.8221; 8220;We have forcefully taken up the interest of Himachal with the Centre and have been able to make the Central government understand our problems in just one month,8221; he said, adding that he was hopeful of getting financial help from the Centre in one form or the other.

The Chief Minister reiterated BJP8217;s resolve to work for the upliftment of the poor and said the government would impart free education to 1,000 students of the Scheduled Caste community in Plus One and Two classes, so that the meritorious students of the community are not forced to discontinue with their studies for want of money.

Speaking on the occasion, acting president of HVC Vijay Joshi said the BJP-HVC combine government would complete its full term. He said the HVC would fully cooperate with the BJP in order to make all the programmes of the government a success.

Many other HVC leaders of the area, including O. P. Rattan and BJP MLAs Ram Das Malangarh and Praveen Sharma were also prevent at the function.
