Centre mulls ban, VHP to continue trishul distribution

The Govt is considering a ban on tridents under the Arms Act, MoS for Home I.D. Swami informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday even as the VHP vowed to go ahead with its trishul distribution programme. When Swami was asked if such a ban would be imposed, he said so far there was no report from any state about distribution of weapons in the form of tridents.

Meanwhile, after distribution of tridents at Jaipur on Tuesday and Aligarh on Wednesday, the Sangh outfit said it would organise such a programme in Khera town near Aligarh on Thursday. VHP senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore said the Centre cannot ban their distribution as these were smaller than six inches and are blunt objects.
