CHENNAI, April 15: The Centre on Wednesday confirmed that the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan had infiltrated into Tamil Nadu and that there is lot of evidence available of ISI’s complicity in problems in the State as well as other parts of the country. Talking to media persons at the Chennai airport on arrival, Union Special Secretary (Home), Ashok Kumar, who is heading a two-member team to review the law and order situation in TN, with specific reference to the Coimbatore blasts and thereafter, said however said that the State had brought the situation under control after the blasts.

“No doubt lot of activities have taken place and explosives have been seized and several persons were arrested. But still lot of incidents that could have been avoided had also happened.”

Ashok Kumar, along with Deputy Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, A K Paitandy, would have a meeting at the State Secretariat with Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, DGP, Home Secretary, other seniorgovernment and police officials, and with officers of the Central agencies including the CBI and IB, on Thursday.

Ashok Kumar admitted that there was foreign funding but denied any knowledge of reports that the LTTE had also funded some of the fundamentalist organisation. He said “I cannot say if the LTTE had a hand in this. I don’t want to go into this.” He said that the Centre will strictly see to it that such incidents (like the Coimbatore blasts) will not happen again.

Asked about the reports that the TN government having had prior information, but had not acted upon the intelligence reports, he refused to be drawn into the details. He said “I don’t want to go into all that. There is already a Commission of inquiry which is doing the job.”
