MUMBAI, JUNE 2: Hotel Centaur defeated Chembur English 4-2 via the tie-breaker after a goalless full-time in the quarter-finals of MDFA-conducted Air-India Trophy football tournament, sponsored by Air-India, at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today.

Chembur English started off well with good combination but their forwards failed to strike as the Centaur defence stood like a rock.

In the second-half Centaur had a chance to take the lead when in the 45th minute a Dennis Chetair pass from the right was headed goalwards by Sanjay Fernandes. But the ball struck the crosspiece and went out.

In the very next minute, Chembur English threatened to score. A pass by Napolean Pereira from the right saw Prasad Puthran head strongly but the ball struck the upright before rebounding into play. Thereafter Centaur goalkeeper Wenzil Moraes averted danger by grasping the ball.

In the tie-breaker, Selwyn Carvalho, Allwyn Fernandes, Sanjay Fernandes and Dennis Chetair scored for Centaur. Only Santosh Patil and PrasadPuthran accounted for Chambur English.
