CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly today defended the decision to allow only students scoring above 60% to take the IIT entrance test.

Discussing the recommendations of the NCF 2005 at a meeting of state boards at NCERT, he highlighted the benefits to students by the HRD Ministry decision on the IIT entrance. ‘‘Under this system, students who are forced by peers and parents will not take the exam. Only those who have the attitude and aptitude will be encouraged. The Class XII exam is losing credibility with students not attending classes after September,’’ he said.
