If veteran socialist leader George Fernandes is not using his old Fiat any longer, it8217;s courtesy the Bombay Taximen8217;s Union. Founded by Fernandes, the union has taken care not to snap its umbilical cord with the trade union-turned-parliamentarian. Members, who drop in once in a while at Fernandes8217;s place, were aghast to see the former minister using the antiquated Fiat they had once presented to him. They decided to gift him a Swift. George hesitated, but was persuaded to accept the vehicle. Last heard, the dilapidated Fiat was being used by his Man Friday, Anil Hegde.
