SANGLI, Aug 5: District guardian minister Anna Dange has asked the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to take immediate measures to ensure that the effluents of the co-operative sugar factories are not left into Krishna and Warna rivers.

Addressing a meeting of Sangli district environment protection cell held yesterday, the minister said the pollution of the rivers should be avoided to preserve the ecological balance. The meeting was attended by district collector Nitin Karir, Municipal Commissioner Ashishkumar Gupta and zilla parishad chief executive officer Surendrakumar Bagadeand other officers.

Dange also recommended that the Sangli Municipal Corporation launch a scheme on an experimental basis to collect and dispose of the garbage collected in the city. Under the scheme, a vehicle should move in the city at a particular time to collect garbage, he suggested.
