The murder of a call girl in a leading hotel of the city, and the arrest of her suspected killer within four days, has again turned focus on the thriving fresh trade in the city.

It was on December 10 night that Ravinder Kaur, alias Muskan, was found dead in a room of Hotel Shivalikview. She was lying naked, face down in a bathtub. The murder came to light when the hotel staff received a call from a room, complaining of leakage. The hotel staff went to check the source of leakage in the room above it but got no reply. It was then that the chief security officer opened the room with the master key and found the body.

According to hotel officials, a stout man with a beard and a cap had earlier booked the room around 6.20 pm the same evening. It was a description confirmed by auto-driver Kulwinder Singh, who had brought Muskan and her alleged killer to the hotel. Later, the police picked up another alleged call girl, Sheetal, a close associate of Muskan, who gave the police some vital clues about the identity of the accused.

Following this, the Chandigarh Police arrested the suspect from Delhi on Monday. The police teams, which conducted raids in various parts in Delhi, Gurgaon and other parts in Punjab, reached the city late on Monday night.

The accused Dildar Singh was reportedly involved in a relationship with Sheetal and allegedly killed Muskan because she had got Sheetal arrested on charges of immoral trafficking in November 2003. Later too, Muskan used to allegedly trouble Sheetal.

Furious with Muskan, Dildar allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill her. Dildar and Sheetal went to Hotel Parkview and stayed in a room on December 9 — a night before Muskan was murdered. The next morning, Dildar met Muskan as a customer and fixed a deal for two hours for a sum of Rs 5,000. The two went to Hotel South End before coming to Hotel Shivalikview.

Muskan used to stay in a flat in the city where she had several regular visitors, say sources.

Hailing from Chamba, Muskan came to the city a few years ago after her marriage was called off at the last minute by the groom who demanded dowry. In 2002, she was caught on charges of immoral trafficking and a case was lodged against her. She was presently facing trial in two cases on charges of immoral trafficking.

Muskan was associated with a modelling agency in Mohali. Here, she allegedly ran the racket with a woman called Harjit Kaur on the pretext of training girls for modelling, said the police. Harjit Kaur was also murdered in May this year. The Mohali police had questioned Muskan after the murder.

Muskan’s parents told the police that she had spoken with her mother, Amarjit Kaur, on Friday afternoon, and did not show any signs of tension or depression.
