The Cabinet tonight approved the amendments suggested by a House standing committee to the bill on National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions. The new provisions are aimed at safeguarding Constitutional guarantees to minorities for establishing and administering such institutions.
However, it did not approve recommendations of another standing committee on changes in a proposed bill to promote small and medium enterprises, and referred the proposals to a Group of Ministers.
The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bill aims at improving the competitiveness of these enterprises through changes in classification, stringent rules for delayed payments and apportioning Central funds for development.
