As the BJP grappled with the crises in Jharkhand and Bihar, firebrand leader Uma Bharati met senior party leaders on Sunday and reportedly pressed for a change of guard in Madhya Pradesh.
Bharati, who returned to the Capital yesterday and met former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, held a luncheon meeting with party general secretary Arun Jaitley today, sources said.
Senior party leaders Sanjay Joshi and Bal Apte also held talks with Bharati at the Madhya Pradesh Bhawan yesterday.
The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister is understood to have conveyed to the senior party leaders that the state administration was slipping into the hands of the bureaucracy and that many of her supporters were being humiliated by officials, the sources added.
Incumbent Chief Minister Babulal Gaur has not taken action against such officials, sources quoted Bharati as saying.
Bharati is also understood to have discussed her proposed ‘Ram Roti Yatra’ from Karimnagar to Ayodhya. The party is yet to give a go-ahead to the yatra, scheduled to begin on March 14.
While Gaur’s supporters claimed that Bharati was summoned to the Capital to allow him to function freely, the Bharati camp claimed that the Central leadership was positive and open to a change of guard after the trial of strength in Jharkhand on March 15.
