Bus routes rationalised

AHMEDABAD, Oct 19: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) which is planning to rationalise its operative routes soon after the Diwali festival has changed about three existing routes which include route number 147 and two circular routes of 600 and 700.

The AMTS to rationalise the number of operative routes and also to cut down expenditure, plans to cut down on the number of routes to nearly 50 per cent of that existing now. Transport committee chairman Hasmukh Barot said that this route rationalisation would begin soon after the Diwali. He said two existing routes would be merged into one, while the number of bus stops would also be decreased.

Sources said the AMTS is also working on a proposal to stop buses from moving into small lanes and the corporation is planning to ply the buses on the main roads only.

Meanwhile, AMTS officials said that buses on route number 147 from Mahadevnagar to Wagheshwari Society and both circular routes of 600 and 700 from Kalupur to Kalupur has been changed.

Buses on route number 147 used to start from Mahadevnagar and pass through Sureliya Estate, Rabari Colony, Amraiwadi, New Cotton Mill, Sukhramnagar, Gomtipur Darwaja, Topi Mill, Vankarvas, Narsingh, Kamdar Maidan, Saranpur, Kalupur, Delhi Darwaja, Income Tax, Vadaj, Nava Vadaj, Nirnaynagar underpass to K K Nagar. This route has now been changed. There has been no change in the route till New Cotton Mill, but then the buses will pass through Silver Cotton Mill, Mariyam Biwi Masjid, Rajpur Check Post and then follow the old route.

Buses on circular route number 600 from Kalupur to Kalupur will continue to ply on the same route up to Amraiwadi after which the buses will pass through Hatkeshwar, Khokhra-Mehemdabad, Sadashivnagar, Madrasi Mandir, Railway over-bridge, L G Hospital, Krishnabaugh, Vishwanath Mahadev, Abad Dairy, Raipur and reach Kalupur via Sarangpur.

Buses on circular route number 700 used to start from Kalupur and pass through Sarangpur, Kamdar Maidan, Gomtipur Darwaja, New Cotton Mill, Amraiwadi, Satyamnagar, Gori Cinema, India Colony, Samjuba Hospital Meter Guage, Railway Station and Shirnagar Mills. But now the buses on the route will ply from Sarangpur, Raipur Darwaja, Abad Dairy, Vishwanath Mahadev, Pushpakunj, Krishnabaugh, L G Hospital, Madrasi Mandir, Shivanand Khokhra, Mehmadabad, Hatkeshwar Mahadev, Amraiwadi post office, Amraiwadi, Indiranagar, Nagarwel Hanuman, Satyamnagar and then take up the old route.

However, officials said with the extension of the existing routes the rates of tickets for the same routes have also been revised.
