At least 40 members of a marriage party were killed when a bus fell into a 500-metre gorge near Nagarsu in Rudraprayag district on Tuesday, the police said. The bus, coming from Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal, was on way to Chamoli.

According to the police, the driver lost control of the vehicle. People from nearby areas helped the police rush the injured to hospitals. Twenty-five people were injured in the accident — some had serious head injuries. They have been admitted to hospitals in Rudraprayag and Srinagar.
