Congress MLAs loyal to K. Karunakaran today urged him not to go against his son by forming a new party which would weaken their ‘‘cause’’— the removal of Chief Minister A.K. Antony.

The MLAs, who met at Karunakaran’s residence, said K. Muraleedharan should be brought back to their faction as lack of unity between father and son would damage their mission. They told Karunakaran that his son’s decision to go by the high command decision had put them all in a spot, creating an impression that Karunakaran and Muraleedharan had taken opposite positions.

KPCC general secretary T. Saratchandra Prasad and Alappuzha DCC president Balachandran made no bones of the son deserting the father at a crucial moment for personal gains.

Another general secretary opposed any move to isolate Muraleedharan. Karunakaran had no reply for his angry loyalists, instead, he left for New Delhi to attend the Lok Sabha session. ‘‘Karunakaran convened the meeting to understand MLAs’ views before he leaves for New Delhi,’’ ‘I’ group spokesman Rajmohan Unnithan said.

Karunakaran is likely to meet Central leaders in New Delhi and probe ways to end the crisis. He is also likely to have discussions with Muraleedharan in New Delhi.
